from a grateful heart: my birthday weekend

i love birthdays.  and i mean that in the sense of celebration. i enjoy so much to love and celebrate others. i am so thankful for all the birthday love i got this weekend from family and friends near and far. i got to do so much of what i love with the people i love the most. so thank you, thank you, thank you.

Normally, this feels like a rhythmic post. Something I do every month, whether I blog about it or not. However, this year around New Years I felt as if I heard more negativity surrounded around goal-setting and following through with things. The reasoning behind setting goals (and then for some, making them public) is different for each person. Some need outside motivation. Some like to keep theirs private in case they aren't achieved and others just think the whole idea is quite silly. and i can't seem not need to need you.

i wish i could write with sounds.  i find myself here every time i start to be able to feel the like my insides are actually echo-ey. and every time i trace it back to this feeling of wanting to go back to a time where i felt safest. its like an eternally unanswered question that is tucked away in a vault.  sometimes it manages to pick the lock and escape and i'm thrown into a spiral, chasing it down and back through a pensieve to see where it all started. it really isn't about my current life.  it's feels like a time warp that grabs a hold and i can't shake it.  and i avoid it. and then it typically catches up to me while i sleep. vibrantly. vividly. you are in full color.

30 Days (or more?) of Thanks.

In the wake of the Hurricane/Superstorm Sandy, I am humbled by the snippets of generosity and kindness we hear about through the news, twitter and Facebook. Donations of money, clothing and food, people opening up their homes to strangers and even people with power placing power-strips on the curb of their homes for free cell phone charging. Little bits here and there are wonderful reminders the strength and kindness that does still exist in our country. But what about the other days? What about the days when there isn't a "natural disaster" plaguing the east coast? Are we truly outwardly thankful for the smallest of things that we have as individuals? I know I personally suck at finding something each day to be thankful for. That being said, I'm going to try and post #30daysofthanks from now until the end of November.
